Bestselling author Jane Fallon has revealed she is preparing for a second operation as part of her ongoing breast cancer treatment.

The 65-year-old, who has been with comedian Ricky Gervais for more than four decades, posted a photograph on Instagram on Monday displaying her feet clad in compression socks, which are typically worn during surgical procedures to prevent blood clots.

"The popsox are on again. Wish me luck," she wrote alongside the image.

The post prompted an outpouring of support from friends and followers such as The Voice presenter Emma Willis responding: "Sending luck and love Jane.”

New Tricks actress Tamzin Outhwaite added: "Huge love and luck Jane."

Radio presenter Zoe Ball noted: “Huge love wafted your way J xxx Saucy footwear x.”

Her fans were also quick to send their wellwishes, as one commented: “Sending you all the luck and well wishes going Jane. Wishing you the speediest recovery and healing.”

Good luck to you Jane! Stay strong!” someone else penned before another said: “All the best Jane, I’ve been thinking/worrying about you worrying, hopefully this will be the last of it!!”

Ms Fallon first disclosed her diagnosis publicly on March 12, having discovered the cancer a month prior through a routine mammogram conducted over Christmas.

She confirmed the disease had been detected at a very early stage, with her prognosis described as "excellent".

Her initial surgery took place on March 23, following additional mammograms, biopsies and an MRI scan to precisely locate the affected area.

In a video update on April 3, the author shared encouraging news from her follow-up appointment.

"They basically got it all," she explained, though surgeons had not achieved a sufficiently clear margin around the tissue they had removed.

She described the second procedure as "a bit of a pain, but it's not a worry," adding that it would be identical to her first operation, with surgeons simply removing a smaller amount of tissue.

The update followed Ms Fallon speaking out against fabricated content appearing online in the wake of her diagnosis.

She addressed a fake obituary that had been circulating, posting on X before subsequently removing the message.

"I've taken the post about the obituary down, because I don't want people to think I'm upset by it," she wrote.

"I'm not. P***ed off yes. But more, I just want people to know that any photos you see of me in hospital, looking sad or with tubes sticking out of me are 100% fake AI generated."

Supporters expressed their outrage, with one revealing the false death announcement had originated from an account masquerading as a Ricky Gervais fan page.

They described it as "beyond vile" and "frankly libellous and disgusting".
