The Duchess of Sussex has spent her career being a proud advocate of women's empowerment

Meghan Markle celebrated International Women's Day on Sunday with a touching photograph shared on Instagram, showing her embracing Princess Lilibet as they sat together gazing at the ocean.

The image captured the Duchess of Sussex on sun-drenched rocks by Butterfly Beach in Montecito, dressed casually in a light blue shirt dress with her hair in a simple bun, whilst three-year-old Lilibet nestled close beside her.

Accompanying the intimate photograph was a poignant dedication to her daughter: "For the woman she will one day be... Happy International Women's Day."

The picture credit was awarded to "Papa Sussex", referring to Prince Harry.

Meghan has spent her career being a proud advocate of women's empowerment.

In 2015, she delivered a speech on International Women's Day, highlighting the need to accelerate gender equality as a UN Women Advocate for Women's Political Participation and Leadership.

In addition, through Archewell Philanthropies, Meghan has funded initiatives for women-led programs, including the "Welcome Project" for resettled Afghan women, and supported research into the impact of COVID-19 on women in the workforce.

Working members of the Royal Family also marked International Women's Day, including Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales.

The Sussexes reside in Montecito, California, where Prince Harry and Meghan live with Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, having relocated to the United States following their departure from royal duties in 2020.

Since returning to Instagram at the beginning of 2025, the duchess has offered several glimpses into family life, including Valentine's Day baking, a Disneyland excursion, and birthday tributes for both children.

In January, she shared footage from a family outing to The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, featuring her mother Doria Ragland alongside the children.

The couple consistently protect their children's privacy, with Archie and Lilibet typically photographed facing away from the camera.
