Baking has become a 'tradition' for Meghan Markle and her children

Princess Lilibet has demonstrated her “nurturing” nature alongside her mother, Meghan Markle, while enjoying a valuable hobby together.

The Duchess of Sussex and her four-year-old daughter have been “strengthening their bond” by baking together, a child development specialist has observed.

Meghan has shared glimpses of the sweet activities together with Lilibet to her 4.1 million Instagram followers and during her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan.

The mother and daughter duo have been seen enjoying Valentine's Day baking sessions and preparing biscuits for television presenter Drew Barrymore before the Duchess appeared on her programme.

Child development specialist Dr Amanda Gummer explained that the shared experience will likely help “strengthen the bond” between Meghan and Lilibet.

"Spending time baking together creates space for connection. It’s relaxed, unhurried and gives lots of opportunities for talking and laughing,” she explained.

“For Lilibet and Meghan, this kind of shared activity is likely to strengthen their bond, build trust and create lovely memories,” the expert believed.

More than further building their relationship, Gummer observed that the baking time also suggested positive traits in both mother and daughter.

“Children often open up more when they’re doing something alongside a parent, rather than sitting face to face," she observed.

The specialist said the activity therefore suggested Lilibet and Meghan: “Enjoy creativity and nurturing others.”

“Baking often appeals to people who like to be thoughtful and hands-on, and who find joy in making something for others to enjoy,” she added while speaking with Hello! Magazine.

As for the Duchess of Sussex as a mother, Gummer declared: “It also shows that Meghan is willing to give her time and attention, which is one of the most valuable things a parent can offer.”

She celebrated the shared pastime as “a real treat for children” broadly, emphasising the educational value of kitchen activities for young children.

“It's hands-on, creative and usually ends with something tasty to enjoy, so it ticks a lot of boxes,” Gummer said.

"Children love the chance to mix, pour, decorate and taste along the way. It gives them a sense of independence and achievement, especially when they see the final result," she continued.

To her mind, baking was a great way to teach children fundamental concepts and coordination whilst allowing creative self-expression.

For Meghan and Princess Lilibet, baking has also been an opportunity to share in on a family tradition.

While celebrating the Fourth of July last month, the Duchess shared that she had made cupcakes with both her daughter and son, Prince Archie.

She began her latest message revealing that Prince Harry had brought her sweet treats on their second date years previously, which fell on July 4.

“Now, all these years later, our two children are in on the tradition,” Meghan wrote on Instagram alongside an image of the cakes they had baked together.
