Princess Beatrice opted to attend a prestigious awards ceremony in New York rather than join her family at a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace.
The Princess, who had been seen just a day earlier with her sister Princess Eugenie at the Chelsea Flower Show, travelled to the United States for the Matrix Awards, which celebrate women in communications.
Her absence was notable as Prince William hosted the first garden party of the season on the same day, where he was joined by Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall.
This marked the second consecutive year that the heir to the throne had invited his cousins to greet guests with him at Palace garden parties.

The York sisters had made a joint appearance at the Chelsea Flower Show on the same day King Charles and Queen Camilla visited the prestigious event.
Princess Eugenie, 35, later shared her thoughts about the outing on Instagram, writing: "Such a lovely afternoon visiting the @the_rhs Chelsea Flower Show, especially when I get to do it with my sis!"
She continued: "It was fantastic to catch up with @horatiosgarden again and to see their beautiful display as well as visit some of the gardens on show including the @dsscotland Garden, the @hospice_uk Garden for Compassion, the Avanade Intelligent Garden and the Cha No Niwa Japanese Tea Garden (who has won garden of the year)."
Following the Chelsea Flower Show appearance, Princess Eugenie joined her cousin Prince William at Buckingham Palace for the first garden party of the season.

The event, hosted by the Prince and Princess of Wales, also saw Zara Tindall in attendance as they greeted guests together.
Princess Beatrice, however, was noticeably absent from the royal gathering, with her sister representing the York family alone at the prestigious event.
While Princess Beatrice missed the palace garden party, it has emerged that she was attending the Matrix Awards in New York, which honours women in communications.
Despite her absence from this royal engagement, there may be a more prominent role for the York sisters in the future.

Royal sources told the Mail that the York Princesses could potentially become working royals during Prince William's reign.
With a smaller family circle following the departure of Harry and Meghan in 2020, the dynamics may change.
"Although Prince William still believes in a 'slimmed-down monarchy', he is increasingly aware of the hard work of his extended family," a courtier told the outlet.
