The York sisters inherited their grandmother Queen Elizabeth's deep sense of duty

Prince William is set to make a decision on Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie becoming working royals during his reign.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have been stepping up their royal duties, with increasing evidence suggesting they are preparing for more prominent roles within the monarchy.

The York sisters, who inherited their grandmother Queen Elizabeth's deep sense of duty, have been expanding their charitable work whilst maintaining their status as non-working royals who receive no taxpayer funding.

Princess Eugenie, 35, joined her cousin Prince William at Buckingham Palace's first garden party of the season on Tuesday, also attended by Zara Tindall.

This marked the second consecutive year that the heir to the throne has invited his cousins to greet guests with him at a palace garden party.

Beatrice only missed the event to attend the Matrix Awards in New York for women in communications.

Royal sources suggest that with a smaller family circle following Harry and Meghan's departure in 2020, the sisters' roles may evolve.

"Although Prince William still believes in a 'slimmed-down monarchy', he is increasingly aware of the hard work of his extended family," a courtier told the Mail. This indicates a potential shift in their status within the royal framework.

During Queen Elizabeth's reign, she relied heavily on her cousins' support. Just as some royal relatives gave up careers to join 'The Firm' like the Duke of Gloucester leaving his architectural position Beatrice and Eugenie might eventually become full-time royals under William's reign.

While Prince Andrew won't return to public engagements, royal commentator Richard Eden believes his daughters taking on greater responsibilities would "benefit the monarchy".

Eugenie's garden party appearance came shortly after a moving interview in the Sunday Telegraph where she discussed undergoing spinal surgery at age 12. This experience inspired her patronage of Horatio's Garden, which creates gardens in NHS spinal injury units.

"I'm happy to be on that journey with them. It needs to happen," she told the newspaper during a visit to the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre.

Dr Olivia Chapple, founder of Horatio's Garden, praised Eugenie as "the ideal modern patron", noting: "She gets it. She's not just a figurehead - she wants to help in a really meaningful way."

Alongside her work with Horatio's Garden, Eugenie co-founded The Anti-Slavery Collective in 2017, raising £1million at the charity's inaugural Force for Freedom Gala.

Both sisters serve as patrons of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Eugenie has balanced her royal duties with a decade-long career at art gallery Hauser & Wirth, while raising her two sons, August and Ernest, with husband Jack Brooksbank.

Similarly, Beatrice, 36, serves as vice-president at software company Afiniti whilst being involved with several charities including Outward Bound. She has two daughters, Sienna and Athena, with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

The sisters were also spotted at the Chelsea Flower Show on the same day King Charles and Queen Camilla attended.

Eugenie shared her experience on Instagram, writing: "Such a lovely afternoon visiting the @the_rhs Chelsea Flower Show, especially when I get to do it with my sis!"

She highlighted visits to several gardens, including Horatio's Garden's display.
