Princess Anne has been praised by royal fans after she received an unexpected standing ovation during the Six Nations on Saturday.
The Princess Royal was left stunned when the stadium of fans watching Scotland’s game with Italy rose to their feet to applaud her.
Anne has been a patron of the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) for almost three decades and is an avid rugby fan, and made the trip to Rome’s Stadio Olimpico to support the team during their first game of the tournament.
When the applause began, the princess appeared perplexed before smiling and speaking a few words to the person sat next to her.

The video gained a host of fans on social media, with lots of comments praising the 75-year-old.
One user commented: “Truly a magnificent human being and fantastic role model for women around the world.”
Another added: “She looks so much like the Queen at times.”
A third labelled her the “hardest working royal.”
With a fourth user saying Anne is a “no frills princess” who “just gets on with serving and representing” the Royal Family.
Anne has long had the reputation as one of the most down-to-earth members of the Royal Family and has been known for supporting the grassroots aspects of rugby.

Last year, she became patron of the Murrayfield Injured Players Foundation, which seeks to provide support to injured players across the Scottish players.
MIPF chair, Ian Rankin, said Anne is a “dedicated supporter of the Scotland rugby team.”
He continued to say: “Her passion for sport, her commitment to the game at all levels, is well documented and we are honoured to have her join us as our Patron.”

During an appearance on her son-in-law’s podcast, Anne told Mike Tindall she became a patron for the SRU “by accident.”
She revealed: “They asked me to go and open the East Stand [at Murrayfield Stadium] when it was built.

“I had about two weeks' notice because they had been let down, I can't remember who by, and as it happened, the horse was lame and I wasn't competing at the weekend, so I went.
“About a month later, they asked me if I wanted to become patron.”
