The Princess Royal is referred to as “the hardest working royal” for her commitment to royal duties

Princess Anne has carried out a royal engagement at Windsor Castle hours after the King’s cancer diagnosis was revealed.

On Monday evening, Buckingham Palace announced that the King had been diagnosed with a form of cancer, but it has not been confirmed what type.

The King’s sister, Princess Anne, was one of the first to find out about the King’s diagnosis as Charles informed his immediate family before the announcement last night.

The Princess Royal handed out honours at Windsor Castle today becoming the first member of the family to perform a royal duty since the royal statement.

Anne is known for committing to her duties as princess and is regarded as the hardest working royal.

Today the princess honoured multiple individuals for different services including music and rugby union football.

The Princess Royal was also scheduled to visit the Midlands today for an official visit, but the event was cancelled.

Among those honoured today was wheelchair rugby league player James Simpson, Rugby union referee Sara Cox and tenor Nicky Spence.

Other members of the Royal Family are expected to increase their number of engagements as the King steps back to rest, as advised by doctors.

But despite his duties being cancelled, the King will continue undertaking State business and official paperwork from home.

GB News Royal Correspondent, Cameron Walker, said that Prince William could be “taking on some of King Charles’s duties or representing the King on behalf of him, but certainly not all.”

Princess Anne already stepped up her duties last week as the King and Kate remained out of action after their hospital operations.

Queen Camilla, Princess Anne and the Duchess of Edinburgh were the only senior working royals last week as the Prince of Wales looked after Kate at home.

In early January, Princess Anne took part in the first international royal tour of the year as she visited Sri Lanka.

Prince Harry has also flown to the UK today to support his father, the King, following the recent cancer announcement.

The King informed his two children, Prince Harry and Prince William, and his three siblings, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew, of his diagnosis before the statement was released last night.
