Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence celebrated his 69th birthday on Friday

Princess Anne has spent her husband’s birthday working in Dubai as she embarks on a royal tour.

The Princess Royal was called for royal duty to attend the Seafarers Awareness and Orientation Day in Jebel Ali for the special occasion.

Anne’s husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, marked his 69th birthday today.

In her role as the president of The Mission to Seafarers, the royal often attends functions around the world to support the charity.

In a social media post, The Mission to Seafarers revealed that Anne met with their team and toured DP World UAE’s Jebel Ali Port, which is the busiest port in the Middle East.

The Princess Royal also joined the Women in Shipping and Trading Conference which spotlighted the “need for greater mental health and well-being services to women at sea and diversity in the industry.”

During the event, the princess wore a beige trouser suit and a brown and white striped shirt. She accessorised her outfit with a cream over-the-shoulder bag.

Princess Anne visited Dubai during a royal tour of the Gulf states in 1984 where she attended a banquet and a riding event.

Anne has close connections with the navy and is an Admiral of Chief Commandant for Women in the Royal Navy and also Commodore-in-Chief for Portsmouth.

Princess Anne’s second husband, Laurence, was a commander in the Royal Navy and the couple met while he was serving on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Before his position on the royal yacht, he was an equerry to Queen Elizabeth II.

They married in December 1992 at Crathie Kirk near Balmoral in a private service with just 30 guests.

Laurence often accompanies Princess Anne on official public engagements. The couple visited Sri-Lanka earlier this year on a three-day-tour.

In Sri Lanka they visited the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic where they received a gift from the Acting Chief Custodian.

In an ITV show about Anne released in 2020, Laurence spoke about he and the princess’s similarities stating: “We are both map and chart people. We like to know where we are and see where we are going.”

He also joked about Anne’s marriage to her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips: “It’s quite amusing that she married first an army officer and then a naval officer. So there must be something about the military that attracts her.”
