The crowd giggled at his humorous reply as the Prince then placed a hand on Kate's arm whilst they continued on their way.

The royal couple also shared another light-hearted moment during their visit when they participated in a mini pipe-building competition.

Kate was initially declared the winner of the friendly contest, however, her victory was short-lived when her mechanism suddenly fell apart, causing both royals to burst into laughter.

Prince William admitted that his own device was similarly unsteady. The playful competition showcased the couple's good humour and ability to enjoy themselves during official engagements, much to the delight of onlookers.

As the ship's sponsor, a role she was appointed to in 2021, Princess Kate played a central part in the ceremony.

She delivered a short speech before the traditional christening moment, saying: "I have the pleasure to name this ship: HMS Glasgow. May God bless her and all who sail on her."

Following naval tradition, the Princess of Wales then released a bottle of whisky, which broke against the ship's hull.

The 43-year-old royal had previously met with HMS Glasgow sailors at Windsor Castle in 2022 to hear about the progress being made on the vessel, demonstrating her ongoing connection to the ship.
