The announcement arrives just days ahead of what was meant to be a highly anticipated showdown with fellow boxing great Mike Tyson.
That contest between the 49-year-old Mayweather and 59-year-old Tyson was dramatically revealed towards the end of last year, with the Congo announced as the venue for their 26 April meeting.
However, the fight quickly ran into difficulties once 2026 began, as no broadcaster came forward to televise the event.

Tyson effectively confirmed the bout was off last month when he disclosed he was nursing a hand injury.
The collapse of the Tyson clash means Mayweather's Athens encounter with Zambidis will serve as preparation for a far more significant September date in Las Vegas.
That September showdown sees Mayweather face long-standing rival Manny Pacquiao once more, with Netflix securing the broadcast rights for their second Sin City encounter.

Five facts about boxing that fans might not know | GBNEWS/PAThe pair previously met in 2015 in what was dubbed the "Fight of the Century", with Mayweather emerging victorious.
However, their rematch has been mired in controversy this month after the former five-weight world champion reversed his position on the bout's classification.
Mayweather declared his unblemished 50-0 professional record would not be at stake, insisting the contest would be staged as an exhibition rather than a sanctioned professional fight as originally agreed.
Team Pacquiao responded by issuing Mayweather with a 14 April deadline to honour the original contractual terms both parties had signed.
The Filipino boxing legend made clear his belief that Mayweather cannot simply walk away from their agreement.

"He will face a lot of consequences if he fails this commitment."
With that deadline now having passed, questions remain over whether the lucrative Netflix rematch will proceed as planned or whether legal action could follow Mayweather's apparent attempt to alter the terms of their agreement.
Tyson, meanwhile, will continue to rest his hand as he prepares for another big comeback.
