Prince William has been left in stitches following an unexpected surprise while visiting a homeless shelter.

The Prince of Wales visited The Passage alongside his son, Prince George, the same support site Princess Diana took a young William to in 1993.

A video shared by the Prince and Princess of Wales showed George putting on his apron, assisting with food preparation and decorating a Christmas tree.

In the footage, William and George were led by The Passage's CEO, Mick Clarke, who laid out a "nice surprise" for the future kings, which left the Prince of Wales in stitches.

The shelter had a selection of Aston Villa Christmas crackers, which led to a "lot of banter".

Mr Clarke said: "[It was] a nice surprise, and I made it clear that I hadn't arranged it. But yeah, they loved it.

"It led to a lot of banter and a lot of fun. And that's one of the things that is very common whenever he comes and visits - there is a lot of banter, a lot of fun and a lot of enjoyment."

George had the opportunity to visit the shelter 33 years after his late grandmother, Princess Diana.

Diana had brought William and Prince Harry to the same Westminster charity in 1993, when the Prince of Wales was approximately the same age George is now.

George was "very touched" when shown a page containing his grandmother's handwriting from four years before her death in 1997.

Mr Clarke described the moment as William explained the significance to his son: "That's my mum. And this was the very first day that she took me to The Passage."

The Passage's CEO said the occasion felt like "a proud-dad moment" for the Prince of Wales, adding that it was "almost coming full-circle from 1993 to the end of 2025".

He described George's reaction, saying: "I think just really, again, very touched looking at it, and then set about signing. And his handwriting is much better than mine."

William became the organisation's Royal Patron in 2019, speaking at the time about how those childhood visits shaped his outlook.

The Prince of Wales said: "The visits I made as a child to this place left a deep and lasting impression upon me - about how important it is to ensure that everyone in our society, especially the poorest, are treated with respect, dignity and kindness."

In a 2024 documentary, the father-of-three recalled his initial nervousness before that first visit, and how his mother's warmth put everyone at ease.

Discussing the visit, a Kensington Palace spokesman revealed: "It was important to The Prince of Wales to share with Prince George the work of The Passage and to spend time volunteering alongside the team.

"They both greatly enjoyed meeting staff, volunteers and service users as well as learning more about the charity's work.

"The dedication shown not only by The Passage but by organisations across the homelessness sector, at Christmas and throughout the year, is invaluable."

While William and Princess Kate's younger two children were not mentioned during the visit, The Passage sent the princes away with three teddy bears, one for each child.
