The Prince of Wales tried to persuade his father and grandmother to take action against Andrew

Prince William "never had a close relationship" with his uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, after it was revealed that the future king wanted the former Duke of York removed from the royal fold.

Andrew has been in the headlines for his connections to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, with growing calls for police to launch a full investigation into him.

A friend of the Prince of Wales has shared the disconnect the royal had with his uncle, even before the allegations against him, in which Andrew has always strongly denied any wrongdoing.

They told HELLO!: "Everyone knows William's feelings about his uncle. He's never had a close relationship with him."

Following Andrew's disastrous BBC Newsnight interview in 2019, William demanded Andrew be banished from the Royal Family "before the rot set in".

As revealed by Russell Myers in his new book, William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, the Prince of Wales is said to have appealed to his father, King Charles and Queen Elizabeth II to take action.

The former prince appears to be mentioned several times across the release of more than three million documents by the US Department of Justice.

In September 2025, Andrew attempted to make conversation with William outside Westminster Cathedral after attending the funeral of Katharine, Duchess of Kent.

The former duke broke into laughter while standing next to the future king, who looked visibly uncomfortable and embarrassed.

William appeared to try distance himself from Andrew during the moment.

The Prince and Princess of Wales released a statement following the release of the Epstein files, with their spokesman saying: "The Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations.

"Their thoughts remain focused on the victims."

Andrew's downfall has seen him booted out of Royal Lodge early and stripped of all his royal titles.

In the latest release of files, the former Duke of York appears to be pictured on all fours over a woman, with his hand placed on her torso.

The former prince has also been accused of sharing highly sensitive information with Epstein and allegedly organising meetings for him during a trade mission to China during his time as the UK's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment.

Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing, and just being pictured or named in the files does not suggest any misconduct.

William's father, King Charles, has been heckled on two separate occasions following the allegations surrounding his brother.

A member of the public shouted at the King during his visit to Clitheroe, Lancashire, saying: "How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?"

Those gathered to see his Majesty responded with boos and shouts of "shut up" directed at the man.

William had a question targeted at him regarding Andrew's allegations, but it was unclear whether the Prince of Wales heard him.
