Pep Guardiola is reportedly set to leave Manchester City on Sunday

Pep Guardiola’s looming Manchester City exit has once again thrown the spotlight onto one of football’s most outspoken managers — not just for his trophies, but for his increasingly vocal stance on Palestine.

Reports emerging on Monday claim Guardiola is set to leave the Etihad after Sunday’s final game of the season, bringing the curtain down on a glittering decade in English football.

But while fans debate his legacy on the pitch, others remain sharply divided over his repeated interventions in global politics.

The Spaniard has become one of the highest-profile figures in football to openly condemn Israel’s actions in Gaza, repeatedly referring to what is happening in Palestine as a “genocide”.

Earlier this year, Guardiola delivered an emotional speech at a pro-Palestine charity event in Barcelona, urging the public not to “turn a blind eye” to the suffering of Palestinian children.

He later doubled down during a Manchester City press conference, insisting he would continue to “speak up” about humanitarian crises around the world.

Guardiola referenced Palestine alongside conflicts in Ukraine and Sudan, saying modern audiences can now witness atrocities “more clearly than ever before”.

The comments sparked fierce backlash from sections of the Jewish community in Manchester, with leaders accusing the City boss of using inflammatory language at a time of rising antisemitism.

The Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester urged Guardiola to “focus on football” and claimed Manchester City had been “let down” by his repeated interventions in international affairs.

Guardiola, however, has shown no sign of retreating from the issue.

He has consistently framed his position as a humanitarian one, insisting he condemns the killing of innocent civilians regardless of nationality or religion.

His political activism has long separated him from many elite managers.

From campaigning for Catalan independence to speaking on migration and conflict, Guardiola has rarely hidden his personal beliefs — even when they risk overshadowing football itself.

Now, with speculation mounting that Sunday could mark his final match as Manchester City manager, attention is once again turning to the complicated legacy he leaves behind.

On the pitch, he transformed English football. Off it, he became one of the game’s most divisive voices.

For supporters, Guardiola will forever be remembered as a tactical genius. For critics, his comments on Palestine ensured his reign at Manchester City was never just about football.
