Prince Harry's former charity, Sentebale, has disabled comments on both X and Instagram platforms, citing "targeted online harassment" as the reason for the social media withdrawal.

The African charity posted a statement on Friday explaining the decision: "Unfortunately, we have had to temporarily disable comments on this platform due to the harmful effects of recent targeted online harassment."

The organisation emphasised that its "focus remains on our mission and the communities we serve" and stated it would "not engage with misinformation or personal attacks."

The move comes months after Harry and co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho resigned as patrons amid a leadership crisis.

Sentebale was established in 2006 by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to honour their late mothers, Princess Diana and Queen 'Mamohato Bereng Seeiso.

The charity focuses on supporting young people affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis in Lesotho and southern Africa.

The princes made what they called a "devastating" decision to resign as patrons in March following a breakdown between the board of trustees and the newly appointed chairwoman, Dr Sophie Chandauka.

According to reports, Dr Chandauka herself previously shut down her social media accounts after being trolled by the "Sussex Squad" following the dispute.

The governance crisis escalated when trustees stepped down after Chandauka threatened to sue them for questioning whether she was the right choice to lead the organisation.

In their joint statement, the princes said: "What's transpired is unthinkable. We are in shock that we have to do this, but we have a continued responsibility to Sentebale's beneficiaries."

They added: "It is devastating that the relationship between the charity's trustees and the chair of the board broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation."

Harry later stated that "No one suffers more than the beneficiaries of Sentebale itself" amid the organisational infighting.

The UK Charity Commission announced in April that it had opened "a regulatory compliance case" into the turmoil at Sentebale to "gather evidence and assess the compliance of the charity and trustees past and present with their legal duties."

Harry responded to the investigation announcement, stating: "On behalf of the former trustees and patrons, we share in the relief that the Charity Commission confirmed they will be conducting a robust inquiry.

"We fully expect it will unveil the truth that collectively forced us to resign."

Chandauka said she first reported "various governance, administration and management matters" about the organisation in February 2025, promising to share her internal findings with the Charity Commission.
