The Duke of Sussex released his much-anticipated memoir Spare in January 2023

Prince Harry’s Megxit memoir “infuriated” Prince William and would have “appalled” Queen Elizabeth II, an expert has claimed.

The father-of-two released the explosive book in January but announced it was in the works in the summer of 2021.

Royal expert Gyles Brandreth, who penned Philip and Elizabeth: Portrait of a Marriage in 2004, suggested the late monarch would not have been impressed with her grandson’s remarks.

Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 last September, just four months before Spare hit the shelves.

Writing for MailOnline, Brandreth said: “She had known her grandson was writing a memoir, and there is no evidence that this caused her distress.

“In fact, her attitude to royal memoirs had changed over the years and she ‘understood’ her grandson’s desire to tell his own story.

“That doesn’t mean, however, that she would have been happy with the result. Quite the contrary.”

The former Tory MP added: “Prince Philip had always actively counselled against this kind of public revelation.

“And much as she was devoted to Harry, it would have appalled Elizabeth II, too.”

Addressing the Prince of Wales' potential concerns, the 75-year-old claimed: “As for Prince William, he was infuriated by the stuff about tensions between him and his brother and, more so, about those between their respective wives, Catherine and Meghan.“

The Duke of Sussex made a number of claims in his 416-page memoir, including about Queen Camilla.

He also discussed his own drug-use, experience in Afghanistan and losing his virginity.

The 38-year-old and his wife Meghan Markle released a separate docuseries in December last year.

Prince Harry launched a second Netflix show Heart of Invictus earlier this week.

The series has been seen as an attempt by the Sussexes to rebuild their media profile.

The couple were dealt a major blow when Spotify parted ways with the Sussexes.

Despite signing a $20million multi-year deal, Meghan hosted just 12 episodes of her Archetypes podcast.
