Daisy Knatchbull, the pioneering tailor who became the first woman to run her own business on Savile Row, has shared her engagement to Italian music executive Giovanni Damiani.

The 33-year-old designer shared the happy news via social media, giving followers a peek at her unconventional engagement ring.

Ms Knatchbull holds a notable place in British aristocratic circles as the great-granddaughter of the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, who was Prince Philip's uncle.

This lineage makes her a third cousin to both Prince William and Prince Harry.

Mr Damiani chose a picturesque Bahamian beach as the setting for his proposal, spelling out "Will you marry me?" in seaweed across the sand.

The couple, who share a home in London, captured the moment on camera, with Ms Knatchbull sporting a floral bikini while her fiancé kept things relaxed in sunglasses and a casual shirt.

Rather than a traditional diamond, Mr Damiani presented his bride-to-be with a playful turtle-shaped ring.

Ms Knatchbull announced the news on Instagram with characteristic humour, writing: "Getting hitched (and making gift shop turtle rings a thing)."
