Plans are being developed to undo the extensive £2.4million refurbishment carried out at Frogmore Cottage for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, sources have claimed.
The Windsor residence has remained unoccupied since King Charles evicted Prince Harry in 2023, just weeks following the publication of his memoir Spare.
Experts are currently evaluating whether the property can be divided back into its original configuration as two semi-detached homes.
Construction work has yet to commence, though sources told the Sun that returning the cottage to its condition before the Sussexes' tenure would require substantial and costly building work.

The late Queen Elizabeth II presented the property to the couple as a wedding gift in 2018, when it consisted of two separate dwellings that were subsequently merged into a single larger family residence.
Transformation of the home took nearly 12 months to complete, with works encompassing the installation of a yoga studio, replacement of ceiling beams and floor joists, complete electrical rewiring, and fitting of new gas and water supply systems.
The Sussexes personally funded their interior choices, which featured a £5,000 copper bathtub and interior design by Soho House's Vicky Charles, incorporating vegan paint throughout the property.
A source told the Sun: "It's been empty for three years. Even Andrew thought it wasn't good enough for him to move in."

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is understood to have turned down suggestions to relocate to Frogmore Cottage during negotiations over his departure from Royal Lodge.
The source added: "Maybe if they get rid of any trace of Harry and Meghan, then someone within the royal household will fancy it.
"It would draw the line under Frogmore Cottage's controversial history and return it to the pre-Meghan and Harry era."
GB News understands that Frogmore Cottage is not managed or controlled by The Crown Estate due to the Frogmore House Act 1841.

This Act of Parliament explicitly annexed the mansion house, gardens, and grounds at Frogmore to Windsor Castle, which legally designated it for use by the Sovereign.
Because it was annexed to Windsor Castle, it is classified as part of the taxpayer-funded Occupied Royal Palaces estate. Its maintenance and funding fall under the Sovereign Grant, rather than commercial Crown Estate operations.
