Prince Harry defended his controversial memoir during a recent interview, maintaining he harbours no remorse over its publication

Royal biographer Tom Bower has delivered a scathing assessment of Prince Harry's impact on the British monarchy, asserting that the Duke of Sussex and his wife, Meghan, have inflicted greater harm on the institution over the past half-decade than it has experienced in a century.

Mr Bower's stark evaluation comes as Prince Harry defended his controversial memoir during a recent interview, maintaining he harbours no remorse over its publication despite the discord it created within royal circles.

Speaking to GB News, the royal biographer said: "It’s the Harry who wants to have his cake and eat it to live in California, pop over here just to remind people how important he is, and at the same time undermine the Royal Family.

"And really, he and Meghan together have done more in the last four or five years to damage the monarchy than anyone in hundreds of years.

"I fear this trip has done huge damage to the Royal Family, because in the end he’ll get his vengeance, and that is very bad indeed."

GB News host Martin Daubney said: "Of course, we have that state visit from Donald Trump on Wednesday at Windsor Castle.

"Talk about spare Harry’s become a spare part. A spare part at a wedding, a spare part at a state visit a spare part in everything. Has he painted himself into irrelevance?"

He said: "Well, he hasn’t, because when he comes here, he becomes a focus of attention.

"But of course, he is spare to Meghan or was, in her attempt to become the great television homemaker. But her series, her career, is crashing.

"So very cleverly, Harry has separated himself from Meghan, as she did from him but she still needs him.

"And so you’ve got this couple in Montecito, desperately looking for a new purpose in life.

LATEST ROYAL DEVELOPMENTS:

"Is Harry Meghan’s spare, or are Meghan and Harry the spare to the Royal Family? The fact is, they are both looking for a purpose, and all they can do is damage the monarchy through their activities."

The interview emerged shortly after Harry's surprise meeting with King Charles on Wednesday, marking their first encounter in 19 months following a brief February 2024 visit when the monarch revealed his cancer diagnosis.

The memoir contained sharp criticisms of multiple royal family members, including Prince William, Catherine, King Charles, and Queen Camilla.

Beyond the book, Harry's allegations extended across various media platforms, including Netflix and Apple productions.

Mr Bower suggested that, unlike Harry's Sentebale charity in Southern Africa, The Invictus Games relies on governmental support, making official endorsement crucial for the upcoming games.

The biographer suggested Harry requires his father's presence and establishment backing for the Birmingham event, warning that failure to secure this support would prove damaging to his reputation.

Meanwhile, Mr Bower described the Sussexes' current situation as a couple "desperately looking for a new purpose in life" in Montecito.

Former royal correspondent Nigel Nelson acknowledged Harry's genuine commitment to Invictus and wounded veterans, though he expressed regret that the couple hadn't remained in Britain to fulfil their royal duties.
