The future King's mysterious request sparked speculation on the nearby Hellenic island

Prince George’s "specific dietary" request during the Waleses' summer holiday is believed to have led to a party going ashore on the Greek island of Zakynthos to fulfil it.

Last month, the 12-year-old Prince joined his parents, Prince William and Princess Kate, and his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, on an £80million superyacht in the Ionian Sea.

Despite the plush facilities aboard, and the vessels culinary presumably being briefed on the children's preferences, the future King was left wanting.

George’s request led to intense local speculation after a tender boat was sent to the nearby island to provide him with the mysterious food item while their yacht was anchored offshore.

"George required a specific dietary item which led to the tender going ashore in Zakynthos to purchase it," an insider revealed.

"Nothing extravagant, just something particular," the source informed the Daily Mail.

Even with the enlightening disclosure, the exact nature of Prince George's request remains shrouded in secrecy.

Residents of Zakynthos have offered their own theories about the mysterious purchase.

Some have even suggested, perhaps tongue-in-cheek, that the future King may have been craving fast food.

The island happens to be among the select few in Greece that hosts a McDonald's restaurant, with the local branch sitting conveniently near the waterfront in Laganas, on the island's southern coast.

When approached about the possibility of a royal visit, the restaurant's manager told the Mail: "It is company policy not to divulge any information regarding our clients."

The request came as the Wales family had been spending their summer break in Greece’s Ionian Sea aboard the yacht.

Having departed from Kefalonia, the 50-metre vessel was travelling southward when it paused near Zakynthos.

The royal party are believed to have maintained strict security protocols throughout their Greek voyage, never stepping onto any of the islands they passed.

Though disembarking was initially contemplated, safety considerations led to the plan being scrapped, the Mail reported.

The family are thought to have instead enjoyed water activities from a converted platform at the yacht's stern, which functioned as a private beach area.

They spent time swimming and using paddleboards and inflatable equipment.

During the trip, Penelope Likoudi, 64, encountered the yacht whilst swimming in Mavrouna Bay near Ithaca. She spotted Kate with Charlotte and Louis approximately 30 metres away.

"I literally shivered with excitement. I was shocked, I couldn't believe it," she recalled to the paper.

Princess Kate's mother, Carole Middleton, is also believed to have joined the family during the Hellenic getaway.
