Danny Welbeck is reportedly set for a sensational England recall after nearly eight years in the international wilderness as Thomas Tuchel prepares to finalise his provisional World Cup squad.
The Brighton striker is expected to be included in Tuchel's expanded 55-man longlist ahead of next summer's tournament.
If selected, it would mark a remarkable turnaround for Welbeck, whose last appearance for England national football team came in September 2018 during a 1-0 friendly victory over Switzerland at Leicester's King Power Stadium.
Now 35, Welbeck is enjoying one of the finest seasons of his career. The former Manchester United and Arsenal forward has scored 14 goals in all competitions - the best return of his professional career in a single campaign.
His outstanding form has played a crucial role in Brighton's push for European qualification under manager Fabian Hürzeler.
With two matches remaining, the Seagulls remain firmly in contention for a potential Champions League place.

His goals have been worth 13 additional points to Brighton this season, underlining his importance to one of the Premier League's surprise packages.
In the top flight, he has struck 13 times - making him one of the highest-scoring English players in the division this term.
That form has thrust him firmly into contention to provide back-up to Harry Kane, who remains England's undisputed first-choice striker.

England's record in their last five major tournaments | GB NEWSTuchel is expected to announce his final squad on May 22, with the identity of Kane's understudy one of the biggest talking points.
Welbeck was overlooked for Tuchel's last squad in March, when Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Dominic Solanke were both included.
Ollie Watkins was also absent, despite another productive season for Aston Villa.
However, Welbeck's consistency, experience and sharp finishing have reportedly persuaded Tuchel to take a fresh look at the veteran frontman.
Also expected to feature in the provisional group are Luke Shaw and Jarrad Branthwaite.

Shaw has, for years, been plagued by injury issues.
However, he's been a regular member of the Manchester United squad this term under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick.
Branthwaite has flourished for Everton when fully fit as the Toffees target European football at the Hill Dickinson Stadium next term.
The 23-year-old has made just 10 league appearances, however, which may count against him as he looks to play at the World Cup this summer.
