Prince Edward finds Royal Family life “very constraining” despite stepping up for King Charles.

A royal commentator has spoken about what Prince Edward is like behind the scenes and how he feels about royal life.

As the monarch continues cancer treatment, the Duke of Edinburgh has had to step up his duties for his brother, King Charles.

Prince Edward is expected to lead the Royal Family in celebrating Anzac Day in London on April 25.

The event marks the anniversary of the start of the First World War Gallipoli landings and is a national day of remembrance for Australia and New Zealand.

Jennie Bond, a royal commentator, said: “He [Prince Edward] is said to find the whole business of being royal very constraining at times but has learnt to live alongside it, unworried that everything is done for him.”

Describing the prince as “kind and self-deprecating,” Bond said how “marriage and fatherhood have matured him.”

She added that Edward “credits much of this to his wife Sophie” and is “closest to his sister, the Princess Royal” in his immediate family as they share many similarities.

It is not known when the Princess of Wales or King Charles will return to public duties, but since their absence, Edward and Sophie have been praised for their integrity in public engagements.

Major General Sir Michael Hobbs, a former Director of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, told Mail Online: “There is a degree of softness there which makes him a thoroughly decent chap.”

Hobbs continued: “He’s all the things he doesn’t appear to be in his public image. He’s not prig and he’s not in the least pompous.”

Sandy Masson, the former head stalker on the royal estate at Balmoral, continued praising the duke, stating: “Edward was easily the toughest of all the princes. Nothing was too much for him.”

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh stepped up for King Charles during a historic event at Buckingham Palace earlier this month.

The couple celebrated Anglo-French relations at a ceremony marking the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale.

Edward and Sophie inspected UK and French troops on Buckingham Palace's forecourt during a parade which highlighted the ties between the two nations.

Royal commentator Richard Eden has said that Edward and Sophie’s two children, Louise and James, could bring an “injection of energy” to the Royal Family in the future if they take on royal duties.
