Princess Kate has received a prestigious new honour from King Charles.

King Charles was “graciously pleased” to appoint his daughter-in-law with a new appointment effective Tuesday.

The monarch appointed the Princess of Wales to be a Royal Companion of The Order of the Companions of Honour.

The Order of the Companions of Honour was founded in 1917 by King George V to recognise outstanding achievements in the Arts, Sciences, Medicine and Public Service.

Current members of the order include Dame Maggie Smith, Lord Coe, Stephen Hawking, John Major and Desmond Tutu.

Princess Kate has stepped back from public-facing duties as she continues preventative chemotherapy for an undisclosed type of cancer.

Kate’s husband, Prince William, was also appointed to be a Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath.

This position was previously held by William’s father, King Charles, when he was the Prince of Wales.

The order was established by King George I in 1725 as a reward for members of the military or civil service for exemplary service.

It comes as the King also appoints four new Companions to the order of the Garter.

Charles has appointed the Duchess of Gloucester, Air Chief Marshal the Lord Peach, The Right Honourable the Lord Kakkar and The Lord Lloyd-Webber.

The Order of the Garter is the oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry in Britain and each year it is celebrated with a procession and service at Windsor Castle.

This year’s Garter Service will take place in the summer at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

In 2022, Princess Kate stole the show wearing a light blue coat dress with matching sapphire jewellery to the Order of the Garter ceremony.

Andrew Lloyd Webber, the UK’s most successful living composer, is to become a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.

Webber has written the scores to some of the world’s most famous musicals, including Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Evita and Sunset Boulevard.
