Prince Andrew "deeply regrets" damaging the monarchy but it was "not intentional", a royal insider has claimed, unlike the attacks launched by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as working royals in 2020, and have since had their royal security detail removed as well as their access to Frogmore Cottage.
Prince Andrew, on the other hand, continues to live in Royal Lodge, despite resigning from public royal duties in May 2020.
In August 2021, Andrew was accused in a US civil case of sexually abusing Virginia Giuffre, on three occasions when she was 17-years-old.
In February 2022, Giuffre and the duke reached an out-of-court settlement for an undisclosed amount, including no admission of guilt on the claims against Prince Andrew.
A friend of the Duke of York claimed Andrew has behaved better than Harry since they both stepped down as senior royals.
They said: “If you were Charles, would you rather have a problem that looks like Harry and Meghan or a problem that looks like Andrew?
"Andrew has taken his punishment, withdrawn from public life and done whatever has been asked of him.

"He knows he has damaged the monarchy. So have Harry and Meghan.
"The difference is [Andrew] deeply regrets it and it was not intentional, whereas Harry and Meghan deliberately set out to cause as much damage to Charles and Camilla as they could to sell books and TV shows.
"That’s an entirely different matter," they told The Daily Beast.
In his memoir Spare, Harry detailed a conversation that he had with his wife Meghan about the fears of losing their security.

He wrote: “Never. Not in this climate of hate. Not after what happened to my mother.
"Also, not in the wake of my Uncle Andrew.”
The duke went on to add that his uncle was “embroiled in a shameful scandal, accused of the sexual assault of a young woman and no one had so much suggested that he lose his security.
"Whatever grievances people had against us, sex crimes weren’t on the list.”
