Netflix is said to be "done" with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry amid the fallout with the streaming giant.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex cut ties with Netflix earlier this month, with Meghan putting her full attention into building her lifestyle brand, As Ever, after taking full control of the company.

Well-placed insiders claimed that the relationship between the streaming site and the couple has been "far from a fairytale".

Sources told Hollywood entertainment magazine Variety: "The Sussexes' perceived pattern of selling repackaged versions of the same story about their exit from royal life has exhausted Netflix.

"Their partnership may continue to taper off, and with it will Meghan and Harry's remaining showbusiness lifeline."

One insider explained that "the mood in the building is 'we're done'."

Also in the report from Variety are claims Netflix was caught off guard by the couple's Oprah Winfrey interview.

A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex described the allegations as "categorically false".

The representative emphasised both Netflix and the Sussexes' production company, Archewell, had legal representation throughout any modifications to their arrangement.

"Netflix and Archewell had legal counsel involved to oversee the evolution of the deal, as is common practice for any deal changes in Hollywood," the spokesman stated.

According to reports, the streaming giant was taken aback when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle conducted their interview with Ms Winfrey in March 2021.

The couple had signed a multi-year production agreement with Netflix just months prior, with the deal reportedly valued at approximately £48million.

Sources cited by the publication indicated that Netflix only learned of the Ms Winfrey sit-down at the eleventh hour.

The streaming service was said to be "annoyed" by what insiders characterised as a "lack of communication" from the couple.

Netflix had already commenced work on the pair's docuseries when the interview aired, reportedly leaving executives feeling sidelined.

However, the Sussexes' spokesman has denied any claims of blindsiding.

Netflix was believed to be "not happy" with Meghan Markle's As Ever brand before the streaming giant and the Duchess of Sussex cut ties.

"Netflix were not happy. They were not happy with the fact that no one really cared about the brand - so when they were looking to create As Ever areas in Netflix House there was no appetite for it.

"It just didn't fit with Squid Game or Stranger Things or Bridgerton like they had hoped," the source told the Mail.

Netflix released a statement following the split, saying: "Meghan's passion for elevating everyday moments in beautiful yet simple ways inspired the creation of the As Ever brand, and we are glad to have played a role in bringing that vision to life.

"As it was always intended, Meghan will continue growing the brand and take it into its next chapter independently, and we look forward to celebrating how she continues to bring joy to households around the world."
