The Duchess of Sussex went viral after sharing a video of her twerking just before giving birth to daughter Lilibet

Meghan Markle's viral twerking video has been branded a "calculated" move for her brand As Ever ahead of a new product launch, it has been claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex raked in more than 42 million views on Instagram after sharing the dance video, posted to mark daughter Lilibet's fourth birthday.

Prince Harry is also seen in the video, briefly dancing across the screen as Meghan danced in the background.

Following worldwide backlash to the post, Editor-at-Large Charlotte Griffiths claimed the Sussex team see the attention it gained as a "win" for the Duchess.

Speaking to GB News, Griffiths told host Ben Leo that Meghan Markle "doesn't care" about what Britons think of her content.

Griffiths explained: "Meghan doesn't really care that we don't like her video. When it first came out, I was on this show going, 'I don't know what she was thinking, why has she done this?'

"I thought it couldn't be more of an own goal, but I think it was actually tactical."

Revealing how the "calculated" move will benefit Meghan's lifestyle brand As Ever, Griffiths added: "What I've since discovered is that she's about to reveal that she's going to make a rosé wine, and she's going to drop in the next day or two.

"She's going to reveal more products from her business As Ever, and apparently there is going to be a different kind of jam, maybe a strawberry jam. There might even be a lemon curd."

Noting that the first jam product put out by Meghan "sold out instantly", Griffiths claimed that the sharing of the video was "on purpose" to drive attention and traffic back to her business.

Griffiths told GB News: "My point is that actually, I think she went viral on purpose and she knows exactly what she's doing. At the end of the month, she's about to relaunch her website with all these new products to sell.

"And actually her team have counted this video as a win. I must be getting old because I thought it was the worst video, but apparently, the Gen Z-ers loved it. They totally got it, and they bought into it."

Noting that it was Meghan's "most successful post ever" according to her team, Griffiths concluded that "any publicity is good publicity".

Griffiths said: "Apparently, it was her most successful social media post ever, and all the Americans apparently love it.

"I guess any publicity is good publicity, isn't it? She's trying to sell these products to the US, she doesn't care about us.

"We're probably not going to buy her jam, and there's not many of us. But there's a lot of Americans out there, so she only really wants it to go viral in America anyway."
