Meghan Markle has addressed a stinging assessment of US President Donald Trump from 2016, when he was running for his first period in office.
The Duchess of Sussex reflected on the broadside while speaking on The Circuit podcast with host Emily Chang as they dined together.
While discussing riots that raged across California earlier this year, Ms Chang asked the Duchess about her comments while appearing on the short-lived Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore in 2016.

On the show, Meghan discussed the US presidential elections in 2012 where: “The Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points. That’s a huge number.”

“With as misogynistic as Trump is and so vocal about it... That’s a huge chunk,” she continued at the time.
Cutting back to the contemporary interview, Meghan was asked: “Are there things you’re dying to say or do right now that you feel you can’t?”
However, Meghan slapped down the opportunity to refresh her criticisms or walks them back.
“No. I just make a choice of what matters to me and what’s important to me,” she said defiantly.

Continuing her thought, the Duchess reflected: “That was a different time in 2016, certainly.”
Meghan then quickly switched to discussing the Larry Wilmore episode and how she was “excited to go on that show at the time”.
Any further discussion was cut short by a waiter arriving bringing burgers to their table.
Evidently, cooling tensions was on Meghan’s mind as she addressed criticisms of her various media ventures elsewhere on the podcast.

Regarding her detractors, Meghan wondered with Ms Chang if there may have been a more cynical reason behind the derision.
“I think oftentimes the negative voices, are they saying negative things and then secretly going home and making single skillet spaghetti? Possibly,” she began with a grin.
“And that’s alright, they’re trying to pay the bills,” the Duchess said.
She continued: “That’s for them to sort out if they’re comfortable doing it at someone else’s detriment.”

Following on from her comments, Meghan issued a robust defence of her Netflix show.
She explained. “From my standpoint, the intention of the show was to share more of myself, to share tips that I love in life and have fun.”
“If you know your audience, if you know your demographic... They love the show,” the Duchess declared.
“My partners love the show and that’s why we have a season two and why we have more fun coming,” Meghan concluded.
