The Duchess of Sussex also defended her divisive twerking video as an 'authentic' expression of herself

Meghan Markle has expressed her regret that the ‘truth’ has not been told about her as she reflected on her current situation.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, opened up on her thoughts while appearing on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, set to be aired in full on Tuesday.

During the discussion, Meghan revealed her public image was “very different” to when she was known only as an actress.

The moment of reflection promoted the podcast host to inquire if the Duchess would change anything about her recent journey.

Grede asked: “I want to say this to you in the best way, because I wonder: If you could rewrite your public narrative from scratch, is there anything that you would do differently?”

"Yes. I would ask people to tell the truth,” Meghan responded definitively.

It remains unclear who or what precisely the Duchess was referring to in her answer, but it appeared to reference the backlash she has faced since stepping down as a working royal in 2020.

In another teaser of the upcoming podcast, Meghan addressed the divided reaction to her twerking video posted to mark Princess Lilibet’s fourth birthday.

The throwback video from 2021 showed a heavily pregnant Meghan dancing and twerking alongside Prince Harry in a hospital delivery room.

"Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work there was only one thing left to do!" Meghan wrote in her Instagram caption, highlighting that traditional methods hadn't induced delivery.

Defending the video, Meghan expressed enthusiasm about sharing more of her genuine personality online, telling Grede: "You have to be authentic."

"That was four years ago," she said in a clip provided to People Magazine.

"So it's also a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there's still a whole life a real, authentic, fun life that's happening behind the scenes," the Duchess continued.

Grede, the founding partner and chief product officer of SKIMS and CEO of Good American, revealed she had watched the video multiple times.

"We maybe watched it like 20 times yesterday, and I was like, is that, is that her? Is that Prince Harry there with the fingers... I was like, okay... good on Harry, let's go," she said.

The London-born entrepreneur praised Meghan's openness, adding: "But that's you, right? Like that's you in a way that we kind of haven't been able to see you before."

She continued: "And I did like a little secret cheer, cause I was like, well, that's what I kind of want to see from you. Like I wanna see that happiness and that honesty and that 'I don't give a f***' kind of thing."

The Duchess expressed gratitude for her return to social media, where she can control her narrative. "I'm just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms," she told Grede.

Since posting the delivery room video, Meghan has shared additional family content on Instagram.

She posted previously unseen photographs of Prince Harry with Lilibet on her birthday, describing "the sweetest bond" between father and daughter.

On Father's Day, she shared more footage of Harry with both their children, Prince Archie, 6, and Lilibet, captioning the post: "The best. Happy Father's Day to our favorite guy."
