Prince Harry faced criticism for backing the American team instead of supporting Toronto, particularly given Canada's status as a Commonwealth nation.

His royal connections to Commonwealth countries made his choice of allegiance controversial amongst some observers.

The Duchess of Sussex maintains strong ties to both World Series cities, having grown up in Los Angeles before residing in Toronto whilst portraying Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits.

Her baseball connections extend beyond geography, as she shares distant ancestry with Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts.

During the couple's stadium tour, the Duchess highlighted Betts's Golden Glove award on her Instagram Stories.

The player acknowledged their familial link in 2018, telling the Boston Globe: "That's not something you expect to hear, but it's interesting. I know from family stories that our relatives were from Virginia and settled in Alabama. There were Betts all over that area."
