Meghan Markle has made her first public comments about her and Prince Harry’s latest Netflix deal, which was announced in August.

The Duchess of Sussex spoke out about the arrangement during a solo engagement at Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington DC on Tuesday.

Speaking at a session titled "Next Level Influence: A Conversation with Meghan, Duchess Of Sussex," the 44-year-old addressed questions from Fortune's Editor-in-Chief Alyson Shontell about the streaming partnership.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex originally signed a five-year deal with Nextflix, after stepping down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020.

In August, Netflix announced the renewal of their creative partnership through Archewell Productions in the form of a multi-year "first look deal for film and television projects".

At the time, Meghan said she was “proud” to extend the deal but has remained tight-lipped about the agreement since.

While at the Washington DC event, the duchess shared new details and spoke out about her and Prince Harry's relationship with Netflix.

"My husband and I were in an overall deal with Netflix then, not dissimilar to Higher Ground and the Obamas' deal,” she began.

“Once that had come to its term, the extension of it — which was such an incredible sign of the strength of our partnership — was now being in a first-look deal," the duchess said.

Meghan was keen to stress the “exciting” advantages of her new agreement with the streamer.

"It gives us flexibility to go to our partners first, then at the same time, shop content that might not be the right fit for Netflix but has a home somewhere else,” she explained.

During the conversation, host Alyson Shontell asked the duchess on the future of the current flagship output of the Netflix deal – her lifestyle programme, With Love, Meghan.

The programme, which has received uninspiring reviews from critics and fans across two seasons, showcases Meghan's tips on cooking and homemaking as she welcomes a selection of celebrity guests.

"Well, the holiday special is coming out in November. It's a really good one," Meghan replied, appearing to dodge any confirmation of another series.

When pressed on the subject, the duchess admitted she was in talks about how the “format” of the show might change in the future.

“So I think looking at that format — again, it's a year of learns — so we're able to say, 'Eight episodes for two seasons — it's a lot of work,” she said.

And having done Suits for seven years, I remember what goes into a production. I also recognize how much people want content in different sizes.

Part of what we're testing out now is, it's amazing to sit and watch a show for 30 minutes, but how can I give you a recipe in two minutes? And where can I share that with you? And how that continues to grow As ever,” Meghan added, referring her lifestyle brand.

Her response suggested continued production activity for the show, though she stopped short of confirming whether additional full series were planned beyond the November special.

The summit, which runs until Wednesday, features prominent figures including former Vice President Kamala Harris, actress Selena Gomez, and author Brené Brown.

Meghan's Washington appearance followed a weekend in New York with Prince Harry, where the couple attended mental health awareness events organised by Project Healthy Minds.
