Scott Mills has been axed from his role at the BBC, it has been confirmed today.

A statement from the broadcaster to GB News said: “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.”

Bosses informed staff of his exit on Monday morning. Lorna Clarke, Director of Music, said in a statement: "I wanted to personally let you know that Scott Mills has left the Breakfast show, and the BBC.

"I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock.

"Not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programmes on R1, 5Live, R2 and TV.

"I felt it was important to share this news with you at the earliest opportunity."

The statement continued: "Of course, it will also come as a shock to our audience and loyal breakfast show listeners too.

"I will update everyone with more information on plans for the show when I’m able to.

"While I appreciate many of you will have questions, I hope you can understand that I am not going to be saying anything further now."

Mr Mills has been a part of the BBC for decades, joining Radio 1 in 1998 as its early breakfast presenter.

Seven years later, in 2005, he made the move from early mornings to an early-evening weekday slot as he filled in for Sara Cox, who was on maternity leave.

When Ms Cox decided not to come back, Mr Mills kept the reins of the slot, and The Scott Mills Show was born.

In 2022, Mr Mills headed over to Radio 2, landing the 2-4pm slot, replacing Steve Wright in the Afternoon.

Last year, Mr Mills took on the coveted breakfast show slot from Zoe Ball.

The sacking comes amid a wave of recent departures at the BBC.

The corporation has faced a series of resignations and dismissals over workplace conduct, editorial controversies, and social media breaches.

Director-General Tim Davie and BBC News CEO Deborah Turness resigned in November 2025 following the Panorama Trump documentary scandal.

Matt Brittin is set to replace Mr Davie in May 2026.

Presenters Gregg Wallace, John Torode, Jermaine Jenas, and Gary Lineker all departed amid misconduct allegations or controversial social media posts.

Furthermore, Kaye Adams was dismissed from BBC Radio Scotland in early 2026.

This came after a five-month investigation upheld three misconduct complaints; she denies the allegations and continues as a panellist on ITV’s Loose Women.
