The absence of the ring during the second half of 2023 had sparked speculation regarding its whereabouts amongst royal fans.

However, the duchess wore the ring during the couple's first joint public outing of the year on Tuesday.

The Duke of Sussex proposed to Meghan in 2017 with the three-stone ring that features diamonds from the late Princess Diana's jewellery collection.

The one-of-a-kind ring was designed by Prince Harry.

Royal commentator Phil Dampier criticised the timing of the appearance as King Charles is set to undergo an operation in hospital this week.

Dampier said: "Under normal circumstances, there would be nothing wrong with them going to a film premiere.

"But at a time when his father is going under the knife and Jamaica is making noises about ditching the monarchy, this is rather insensitive.

He added: "Jamaica will have a referendum but it's almost certain they will go their own way eventually."

The couple's first joint appearance of the year comes as Prince Harry attended the Living Legends of Aviation award ceremony on his own last week.

Meghan missed the event to look after her children Archie and Lilibet, according to reports.

Harry did not reveal why his wife had not accompanied him to the ceremony.

The Duchess of Sussex chose not to attend the event after one of their children became ill, according to People.
