King Willem-Alexander made a public joke at the expense of the Princess of Wales

The King of the Netherlands teased Princess Kate with a photo-editing jibe while meeting members of the public.

The Princess of Wales has taken responsibility and apologised for editing a Mother’s Day photograph.

The photograph was recalled by multiple agencies over fears it had been digitally “manipulated.”

Now it appears that King Willem-Alexander has waded into the Photoshop blunder at the princess’s expense.

The Dutch king was meeting with members of the public in the city of Zutphen, on Tuesday.

While speaking to a group of schoolchildren wearing orange and yellow crowns, a little girl referenced a “photograph with your whole family.”

To which the King replied: “Really, At least I didn’t Photoshop it.”

The joke landed with adults in the crowd who laughed at the King’s quip as Willem-Alexander moved on to another section of the crowd.

The conversation was reported by the Dutch Telegraph (De Telegraaf) who described it as a “striking moment during a work visit by King Willem-Alexander in Zutphen, where he appears to joke about Kate-gate.”

The clip has been widely circulated on social media, with one user commenting: “King Willem Alexander serves us jokes…”

The princess of Wales apologised for the “confusion” she caused by the edited photograph saying that she does “occasionally experiment with editing.”

Following the apology, there were calls for the original unedited photograph to be released but the palace has not released the image.

The Dutch royals met in 1999 when Maxima, who was working in finance in New York, holidayed in Seville.

While she was there, she met Willem-Alexander at a party during the Seville Spring Fair, however, he did not tell her his real identity.

According to the Daily Mail, the King said about his bride-to-be: “I fell in love with this Maxima: spontaneous, interesting, nice.

“I hope she stays the same person as she is now.”
