The royal palaces have confirmed the King will attend Trooping the Colour, but Princess Kate will not

The royal palaces have confirmed the King Charles will be in attendance at this year's Trooping the Colour event, but Princess Kate will be absent as she continues in her recovery.

The major royal event, set to take place on June 15, will see 2000 soldiers and around 240 horses from the Household Division marching in the King's Birthday Parade.

However, it has been confirmed by Kensington Palace that the Princess of Wales will be absent from the colonel's review, which takes place on June 8.

As Colonel of the Irish Guards, it would have been expected that the Princess would attend, but due to her health, will not be seen at the events this year.

Detailing the news from the Palace, GB News Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker says Kate's absence means she needs "more time and space to recover" as she continues her preventative chemotherapy treatment.

Cameron told GB News: "The Princess of Wales, she is Colonel of the Irish Guards. It is the Irish Guards this year who are trooping their colour in front of the Sovereign.

"And usually, tradition would be that she would take part in the Colonel's review the week before, on June 8. But due to her ongoing cancer recovery, that is not happening."

Cameron also revealed that in the Princess's absence, General James Bucknell will take part in the review on her behalf.

Confirming the attendance of King Charles, Cameron told GB News that the monarch will be making his appearance but on an "adapted scale".

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Cameron explained: "They have confirmed that His Majesty the King will be taking part in the King's birthday parade, Trooping the Colour, on June 15. But adaptions have been made because he is still undergoing cancer treatment.

"So instead of riding on horseback, the King is going to be riding in a carriage from Buckingham Palace with Her Majesty the Queen down the Mall to Horse Guards Parade, and will inspect the troops from a carriage rather than on horseback."

When asked by host Tom Harwood if Princess Kate missing the colonel's review also means she will miss the Trooping the Colour, Cameron admitted there "still remains a question mark" over her attendance.

He added: "From the information we got from Kensington Palace today, I think we do need to manage those expectations. If she turns up, then great. If not, I don't think we should be too disappointed.

"The Princess, as Kensington Palace says, needs to be given the time and space to recover. As she said, that's that's what she would like to happen too."

Praising the ongoing rehearsals ahead of the parade, Cameron revealed that the first rehearsal in front of a crowd "went well", and has helped the horses "used to a large crowd".

Cameron said of the rehearsals: "It appeared to have been going very well indeed. Nearly a thousand soldiers were taking part from all seven regiments in the Household Division, Irish Guards trooping their colour, a thousand members of the crowd here, and there are a few more rehearsals to go before the big event itself.

"But I was speaking to James Shaw, in charge of the parades, and he said because the King is actually going to be here considering the year he's had, they want it to be the best parade they have had so far."
