King Charles waved to royal fans on Sunday morning as he made his way to a service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham.
The 76-year-old was seen smiling as he greeted well wishers from the back seat of a blue car but was notably without the company of his wife, Queen Camilla.
Charles is usually joined by the Queen when he goes to church but she appeared to be absent.
The Sunday service comes as the royal couple take a break from public duties following their return from Canada, where the King gave a landmark speech at the state opening of parliament in Ottawa.

In the coming months, the Royal Family will take part in Trooping the Colour to mark the King's official birthday, Royal Ascot, and a prestigious state visit from French President Macron in July.
Charles was, as ever, dressed smartly for the service on Sunday.
The King sported a dark grey suit with a crisp white shirt and tie as he attended St Mary Magdalene's at his Norfolk residence.

The trip was one of his first public appearances since returning from his busy visit to Canada last week.
During the two-day venture, Charles and Camilla attended back-to-back engagements where they met with adoring crowds in the nation's capital.
At an event in the city's Lansdowne Park, the royal couple greeted and shook hands with hundreds of people in attendance as they toured the area's war memorial.
Charles was said to be "touched" by the warm welcome given to him by the Canadians.

A senior royal aide observed: "To go to a realm of which you are King, but in which you don't actually live is a big thing when you do it for the first time, as we saw in both Australia and now Canada.
"It is a reset of that relationship, and for Their Majesties to see so many people turn out and to be so thrilled to see them was fantastic."
"As The King put it in his departure message that came straight from the heart: 'It was the warmest of welcomes and the fondest of returns to a nation and a people we love," they concluded.
Upon leaving Canada, Charles issued a statement that read: "As my wife and I leave Canada, we wanted to send our most heartfelt thanks to all those who turned out to offer their support on this, my first visit as sovereign."

"Until the next time, au revoir, Canada, et avec tous nos remerciements," it concluded, adding a sweet tribute to the nation's French speaking minority.
