The 41-year-old contacted the Greek Royal Family ahead of the service to inform them he would not be attending.

Today's service was hosted by Queen Camilla and the British Royal Family, as King Charles continues to receive cancer treatment.

Other royals that attended included Princess Anne and Timothy Laurence, Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, and Zara Tindall and Mike Tindall.

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi also attended the ceremony, while Princess Eugenie was notably absent.

Earlier this month, the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children travelled to the Sandringham estate in Norfolk for a half-term holiday.

When Kate was discharged from hospital, a Kensington Palace spokesman said: "The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress.

"The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided.

"The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world."
