Princess Kate is "unlikely to travel outside the UK" during the early stages of her return to royal duties, a health expert exclusively told GB News.

The Princss of Wales has taken a temporary break from royal duties as she recovers from abdominal surgery which took place in January.

Kensington Palace did not release any details about the "planned" surgery, but did note that it was "successful".

Kate, 42, stayed in The London Clinic for 13 days following the operation on January 16, and later returned home to Adelaide Cottage.

Dr James Thompson, a Consultant Psychologist, explained how Kate is likely handling her recovery journey at her home in Windsor.

In an exclusive interview with GB News, Thompson said: "Depending on the success of her recovery and how confident she is feeling at this time, this will determine when she is back performing her royal duties.

"With a swift recovery, we expect to see Kate back to her usual duties relatively soon, back meeting the general public and her usual royal engagements.

"However, this most likely will not include travelling outside the UK in the early stages."

There were rumours towards the end of 2023 that the Prince and Princess of Wales would head to Italy on a royal tour in the spring of 2024.

However, it is not expected that Kate or William will engage in any international travel over the coming months while the princess recuperates.

It comes as Kensington Palace provided a health update for the Princess of Wales on Tuesday.

The Palace said that the Princess of Wales is "doing well" as she recovers from abdominal surgery.

He cited a personal matter, according to Kensington Palace, and did not divulge any other details.

However, they did add that the Princess of Wales was continuing to be "doing well" after her surgery.
