Carole Middleton is celebrating her 69th birthday today as she continues to support her daughter the Princess of Wales.

Kate returned home on Monday following a 14 day stay in the London Clinic after undergoing abdominal surgery.

The princess was reunited with her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis this week for the first time in two weeks.

As Kate continues her recovery she is expected to lean on her parents Carole and Michael Middleton for support.

A source told People Magazine: "Her parents are an enduring factor in the upbringing of their grandchildren.

"And they will be a reassuring presence when she goes back to Windsor to recuperate."

It comes as royal commentator Michael Cole stated that Kate may spend time at the Middleton family home during the coming weeks.

Cole said: "She's gone off straight to Adelaide Cottage in the middle of Windsor Great Park to recuperate.

"That, of course, is where her children are, they go to school locally and she'll want to be there, but it's not an ideal place for recuperation.

"It's not terribly big. In fact, there's no room inside the house for the nanny, she has to live in an outbuilding."

He added: “Catherine's parents have a larger house not far away in Berkshire, but she’s on the way to recovery."
