Princess Kate is undergoing 'preventative' cancer treatment following her diagnosis

Royal Commentator Lee Cohen has hit out at the "despicable" speculation from celebrities surrounding Princess Kate's health, that he claims circulated ahead of her cancer revelation.

Last week, the Princess of Wales announced she has begun cancer treatment after her abdominal procedure in January showed "cancer had been present".

Prior to the announcement, global speculation had been rife surrounding the Princess's health and whereabouts, and Cohen claimed that even in America, the story is "huge".

Appearing on GBN America, Cohen told host Nana Akua that he has "personally apologised" on behalf of "despicable" celebrities in the States, arguing many joined in on the online conspiracies surrounding Kate.

Cohen blasted the "cheap shots" taken by celebrities and hosts in America and said the digs were "at the Princess of Wales's expense".

Many celebrities, including actress Blake Lively, took to social media to apologise for joining in on the viral conspiracies concerning Kate, admitting she was "mortified" by her actions after learning of the Princess's cancer diagnosis.

Lively told her Instagram followers: "I'm sure no one cares today but I feel I have to acknowledge this. I made a silly post around the 'photoshop fails frenzy' and, oh, man, that post has me mortified today. I'm sorry."

Cohen admitted he was "astonished" to see celebrities taking responsibility and suggested they may have been "experiencing a blow to their own popularity".

Cohen added: "A lot of them probably won't, because often on social media, if you say sorry, then people start, they'll come for you even more."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Host Nana Akua noted the Princess's recent Photoshop editing errors on her Mother's Day photo, and said the global backlash and conspiracies following were "ludicrous".

Nana told Cohen: "I thought it was quite unprecedented that people were talking about AI and Kate. It was just clearly a couple of errors with the photoshopping, and I thought clearly there's something wrong."

Cohen agreed with Nana and said the reaction by the American public to the incident was "vile gossip".

He explained: "The missing Princess saga generated significant interest and investment from a derelict sector of the American public, who were drawn to the vilest gossip and human drama surrounding what turned out to be a very sad situation for the beloved Princess."

Cohen continued: "Some of us watched in horror as many Americans seemed swept away by Palace intrigue, as though none of this were nothing but another episode of The Crown.

"And it was all the more mortifying, of course, when Princess Catherine made her statement last week."

In her statement, the Princess of Wales asked for "privacy" following an "incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family".

The Princess said: "This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family."
