James Middleton has broken his silence with his first Instagram post after vowing to "climb this mountain" with Princess Kate.

The younger brother of the Princess of Wales was Kate's first family member to publicly send good wishes after she announced her cancer diagnosis.

Last Friday, Kate, 42, recorded a video from her garden to announce her cancer diagnosis, and that she was undergoing a course of preventative chemotherapy.

James, 36, took to Instagram to post a childhood picture of himself and Kate with the caption: "Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together.

"As a family, we will climb this one with you too."

James broke his silence and took to Instagram two days later to mark a day which means a lot to him, National Puppy Day.

The 36-year-old is a massive dog lover, as he owns six of his own at his Berkshire residence.

The father-of-one filmed himself alongside his dog Isla and several labrador puppies.

James could be seen running through his large family garden which he shares with his wife, Alizeé Thevenet, and baby boy Inigo.

In the clip, James said: "Happy National Puppy Day! There's a minefield of information out there on how you should prepare taking a puppy home for the first time.

"With a pack of six dogs and multiple litters under my belt, check out the link in my bio for my best advice on welcoming your new puppy home."

The end of the clip showed James cuddling up with his dog Isla.

He added: "I don't think you are a puppy anymore, are you?"

James and Alizee share their home with dogs Isla, Zulu, Inka, Luna, Mabel and Nala.

The 36-year-old has always had a strong passion and love for dogs after they helped him through his depression battles.

Earlier this month he revealed he's writing a book dedicated to his dog Ella, who died in January last year.

In a video on Instagram, he held the first manuscript in his hands as he announced that Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life will be released in September.

James said: "I was heartbroken and we went on such a journey together from her first breath to her very last breath."
