Edoardo now has two daughters with his wife, Princess Beatrice

Dara Huang has opened up about her "difficult breakup" with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, revealing the financial hardships she faced as a single mother.

The architect shared on Instagram how she poured everything into raising their son following their 2018 separation, when their child Wolfie was just two years old.

Huang wrote: "Then came a difficult breakup… the moment I finally claimed the pay rise I’d long deserved… also finally seeing some payoff my growing business."

"I was a single mum with a baby, so nearly everything still went to my son," Huang added, describing the challenging period after her split from Edoardo, who went on to marry Princess Beatrice in 2020. The royal couple now have two daughters together, Sienna and Athena.

Huang recalled being 26 and newly arrived in London when she first encountered a pair of grey Stuart Weitzman knee-high boots left behind by a previous tenant.

"I wasn't in a position to afford them (I had nothing but student loans), and they weren't my size (unfortunately), but I remember just staring at them, thinking this was the perfect boot. Sleek, confident, elegant," she wrote.

The architect launched her own company at 29, spending the next seven years building it with "no time, no extra money, certainly no 'dream shoes.'"

Her first Stuart Weitzman purchase came only after her business began succeeding post-breakup.

Years later, Stuart Weitzman approached her to become their brand ambassador, telling her she embodied "the woman who could do everything."

"I cried. They had no idea how much that meant. How hard I had worked just to be able to wear those boots," Huang revealed.

The American architect quipped that there are "still brands [she] can’t afford", including Cartier.

This is notable, as Princess Beatrice was famously photographed wearing an engraved Cartier Juste Un Clou bracelet with the letter "E" for Edoardo in 2019 - the year after his separation from Huang.

Huang shared an inspirational message about perseverance, writing: "This is just a reminder that if you focus on your purpose, lead with passion, stay optimistic, and work hard—it really does come full circle.

"And never ignore your intuition. It will get you far."

She expressed gratitude for her journey, stating: "I thank God every day for the grace to support those around me, and for the people who continue to lift me up in return. Amen."

The architect's story illustrates a remarkable transformation from financial struggle to becoming an ambassador for the very luxury brands she once couldn't afford.
