New York City's mayor Zohran Mamdani has come under fire for his "insurrectionist language" after a 37-year-old woman was shot dead by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) agent in Minneapolis.
Renee Nicole Good allegedly attempted to run over the federal agent with her car before she was killed.
In the wake of the 37-year-old's death, Mr Mamdani launched a scathing attack on the immigration agency - directly accusing its officers of murder.
He wrote on social media: "This morning, an Ice agent murdered a woman in Minneapolis - only the latest horror in a year full of cruelty.

"As Ice attacks our neighbours across America, it is an attack on us all.
"New York stands with immigrants today, and every day that follows."
The newly-elected mayor's statement sparked furious backlash, with Mr Mamdani being accused of using "insurrectionist language" by New York City councillor Vicki Paladino.
The Republican, who represents a district in Queens, wrote: "This has to stop. Compliance with law enforcement is not optional. You do not have the right to obstruct.

"But at the end of the day, Ice has every right to remove people from this country who are here illegally. It's not an 'attack' and it's not 'cruelty' - its reality."
Political commentator Dan Burmawi also condemned Mr Mamdani's statement on social media, writing: "Under Mamdani’s administration, NYPD officers might be run over by criminals, and if they try to defend themselves, the mayor will turn against them, just as he is turning against the ICE agent who was defending himself."
Reacting to the shooting on his Truth Social platform, Mr Trump wrote: "The woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, wilfully, and viciously ran over the Ice officer, who seems to have shot her in self defence.

"Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital.
"The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is because the radical left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our law enforcement officers and Ice agents on a daily basis."
Vice President JD Vance wrote: "You can accept that this woman's death is a tragedy while acknowledging it's a tragedy of her own making.
"Don't illegally interfere in federal law enforcement operations and try to run over our officers with your car. It's really that simple."

Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey told Ice to 'get the f*** out' of the city

Minneapolis' Democrat mayor Jacob Frey joined Mr Mamdani in launching a fierce attack on the federal agency.
Speaking at a press conference following the shooting, he said: “To Ice, get the f*** out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here.
“Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety, and you are doing exactly the opposite.”
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described Good’s alleged attack as an act of “domestic terrorism” - a characterisation Mr Frey dismissed as “bulls**t”.
