Online speculation erupted over the weekend after the President was not seen in public for a few days

Donald Trump has boasted he has "never felt better" after rumours about his health swirled online.

Speculation began to spread on Friday after people noticed the US President had unusually not been seen in public for two days.

By Saturday, thousands of posts had been made on social media using the hashtags #whereistrump and #TRUMPDIED.

On Saturday afternoon, photos emerged of the President playing a round at the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia.

On Sunday evening, the 79-year-old Commander-in-Chief finally addressed the rampant rumours.

He said on his Truth Social platform: "Never felt better in my life. Also, DC is a crime free zone! President DJT."

The President has recently taken control of the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department.

Commentators online had also claimed remarks by Vice President JD Vance were "proof" of Mr Trump's demise.

Mr Vance had said he was ready to take control if a "terrible tragedy" occurred as he hailed his boss for being "the last person making phone calls at night, and the first in the morning".

He added: "Yes, terrible tragedies happen, but I feel very confident the President of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people.

"And if, God forbid, there's a terrible tragedy, I can't think of better on-the-job training than what I've gotten over the last 200 days."

Online speculation was also fuelled by the so-called Pentagon Pizza Index.

Many believe that surges on the website, which tracks Google data on pizza activity at pizzerias near the Pentagon, correlate to major incidents taking place as staffers rush to feed themselves.

In June, it showed an influx of action just before the President ordered the bombing of Iran.

Worries for Mr Trump's health have increased since he has been seen in public with bruising on his right hand, often covered by makeup.

However, a spokesman for the White House said: "President Trump is a man of the people, and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis more than any other president in history.

"His commitment is unwavering, and he proves that every single day."
