Mr Trump had deployed the National Guard to DC last week in a bid to quell a public safety emergency.
He also moved to temporarily take over the city's police department - before vowing: "We're going to have the best capital ever."
Even Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has admitted crime rates are set to drop following the crackdown.
Asked on Thursday whether the capital was now safer, she said: "We expect that having 500 additional officers will yield more arrests, and we want guns off the streets.
"Our police officers continue to do the work, and we expect some incremental difference with more officers."

At Union Station on Wednesday - the site of an extraordinary encounter with a pro-Palestine protester - Vice President JD Vance heaped praise on his country's troops.
"You guys bust your ass all day, we give you a hamburger," Mr Vance said, adding: "Not a fair trade but we're grateful for everything you guys do."
The same day, White House press chief Karoline Leavitt said authorities had made 465 arrests since August 7 alone.
"Thanks to President Trump's leadership and the outstanding work of both federal and local law enforcement, dangerous gang members like the one picked up last night will not be allowed on the streets of our nation's capital," she said.

Mr Trump had been due to join the National Guard in a "ride-along" in DC and personally patrol the capital's streets - which did not eventually come to pass.
He had said ahead of his visit to the US Park Police HQ: "I'm going to be going out tonight, I think, with the police and with the military, of course."
"We're going to do a job," he told radio host Todd Starnes. "The National Guard is great. They've done a fantastic job."
