Donald Trump is weighing up proscribing Antifa and other far-left groups as terror organisations.

The American President and his administration are planning to crack down on left wing groups accused of stirring up violence.

Mr Trump said he would be in support of proscribing the anti-fascist group after a gunman accused of sharing similar extremist views killed Charlie Kirk.

The conservative activist was shot by an assassin while he was hosting an event at Utah Valley University.

When asked by a reporter in the Oval Office about labelling Antifa as a terrorist organisation, the President said: "I would do that, 100 per cent."

He added: "Antifa is terrible. We have some pretty radical groups, and they got away with murder.

"These aren't protests. These are crimes what they're doing."

During the question and answer session, Mr Trump expressed his belief that Tyler Robinson, the alleged gunman, "went bad very quickly" having been radicalised on the internet.

The 22-year-old has been arrested for the shooting, evidence for which included bullet casings inscribed with messages such as "Hey fascist! Catch!" and "Bella Ciao" in reference to the Italian anti-fascist song.

On Monday, whilst hosting The Charlie Kirk Show, JD Vance claimed "left wing extremism" was partially to blame for Mr Kirk's murder.

The Vice President said: "We have to talk about this incredible destructive movement of left wing extremism that has grown up over the last few years and, I believe, is part of the reason why Charlie was killed by an assassin's bullet.

"We're going to talk about how to dismantle that and how to bring real unity that can only come when we tell the truth."

After Mr Kirk's death, Mr Trump made a speech from the Oval Office in which he promised to take down the "radical Left" which was "directly responsible for the terrorism that we are seeing in the country today".

He added: "The radical Left really is causing a lot of problems for this country.

"I really think they hate our country."

The US President had previously said he was going to designate Antifa as a terrorist organisation in May 2020 after he accused it of starting during protests after George Floyd's death.
