Robert Jenrick has launched a scathing attack on Nigel Farage during a GB News interview, accusing the Reform UK leader of having "one pint too many" when announcing £3.5 billion in additional welfare spending.
The former immigration minister told presenter Camilla Tominey: "I know he likes a pint or two but it feels to me that he had one too many when he announced he would spend £3.5 billion extra on welfare."
Jenrick criticised Farage for getting "into bed with Keir Starmer on hiking the Welfare Bill" during what he described as a significant policy announcement this week.
Jenrick dismissed suggestions that his rightward shift was motivated by the threat of losing his Newark seat to Reform UK.

He criticised Reform's leadership beyond Farage, targeting party chairman Zia Yusuf for promoting "whacky cryptocurrency policy in Las Vegas".
"I'm all for innovation but this is not the number one priority for my constituents in Newark," Jenrick said. He argued that Reform lacked credible solutions to Britain's challenges, stating: "I don't think Reform has the answers to the problems this country faces. That's what my party is focused on."

During the interview, Camilla presented polling data that posed a challenge to current Conservative leadership.
She told Jenrick: "According to a Survation poll this morning, two thirds of Conservative voters would prefer Boris Johnson to be leading the party. Not Kemi Badenoch and not you, Robert Jenrick."

The polling figures highlighted potential dissatisfaction within Conservative ranks regarding the party's current direction under Badenoch's leadership, with a significant majority of party supporters apparently favouring a return to Johnson's stewardship.
Jenrick offered a robust defence of Kemi Badenoch's leadership in response to the polling data.
"Kemi Badenoch is the leader of our party and I am right behind her. She is working hard to hold this Government to account and she is landing blows," he said.
He highlighted recent Conservative successes, particularly Labour's policy reversals. "Look what we've seen recently.

He acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed confidence in the party's prospects, stating: "If we bring forward serious answers, not get into bed with Keir Starmer on hiking welfare, I believe we can win back trust and confidence of the British public."
