Martin Daubney explodes at Labour councillor as Keir Starmer's plan for digital ID cards sparks GB News row: 'The room fell silent!'

Sources have informed GB News that the Prime Minister is set to announce the scheme in a keynote speech at the Labour Party Conference tomorrow.

The card, reportedly called the "Brit Card", will be used to verify an individual’s right to live and work in the UK.

Hitting out at the plans, Sir Jake told GB News: "Why should I have to change the way I live every single day of the week to be stopped by police, which we know has been subject to a massive overreach in terms of taking civil liberties away from people, both during Covid, but actually much more recently with arresting people for saying things on the internet, stopped by the police.

"Like Germany circa 1940, being told to show my papers on the streets, why should I be forced to do that? This Government has failed to grip the issues of borders. This is fundamentally changing the way we live our life in Britain, and the real disgrace is to call it a 'Brit card' when it's destroying so much of what matters to us here in the country."

Criticising Labour further, Sir Jake added: "The second issue is I fundamentally do not trust this Government with my data. The Government is terrible at keeping our data safe, it will lead to wholesale problems in terms of your own data security. This is wrong for Britain. It's the wrong time, it's the wrong policy.

"And I'm sorry, if Starmer thinks this may be part of a new Keir Starmer reset for the Labour Party conference, he is proving himself once again tin-eared and not on the side of ordinary working people in this country."

Putting the question to Mr Moffitt, Martin fumed: "Why should I pay the price because the Government can't control our borders?"

The Labour Councillor told Martin: "We've talked about this Government not controlling the borders, what about the ten years before when the Government let 500,000 people a year legally into the UK?"

Mr Moffitt hit back: "Keir Starmer and this Labour Government is taking the action required to smash the criminal gangs. This is what these ID cards are for.

"The one interesting thing you did say Jake was about Labour Party conference, and it will be interesting to see how this policy goes down. This is not red meat for the Labour Party membership. This is yet another arsenal that the Government is giving itself to fight illegal migration."

As Mr Moffitt's remarks were met with silence, Martin quipped: "And the room fell silent!"

Martin then explained: "Patently and clearly and provably this Government, and to be fair, the previous Government, hasn't controlled illegal immigration. And rather than targeting those who are breaking the law, they're going for law abiding citizens and sacrificing their liberty.

"They're being expected to to basically surrender to something which could in the future be used to stop you eating red meat, going to the pub, buying cigarettes, anything, it could go anywhere. That's what people are scared about."

In total disagreement, Mr Moffitt interjected: "I think that might be slightly alarmist, and I'm not sure your viewers are going to benefit from you saying that we'll stop people eating red meat."

Sir Jake weighed in again, concluding: "The Government is addicted to telling us what to do, and this is just feeding that addiction. There has been a long term program in the civil service to force 70 million people in Britain to carry a digital ID card linking it to immigration.

"Previously, when people wanted to introduce it, it was linked to Covid, now it's linked to immigration. It's a Trojan horse to track us from the cradle to the grave. And what I'd say to people out there, GB News viewers, true patriots is go out in the Channel, maybe borrow Angela Rayner's inflatable dinghy that she was photographed in the summer. Get your digital ID, throw it away. We must resist this. It is a disgraceful attempt to control."
