The self proclaimed communist made the comments amid a desperate rescue mission for the missing sub

Ash Sarkar is facing backlash over an "utterly grotesque" tweet about the Titanic submersible which has been missing since Sunday.

The commentator, who describes herself as a communist, used the horrific incident to suggest the rich should be taxed more.

The OceanGate Expeditions tour group, which takes explorers to the depths of the Atlantic for $250,000 per person, is believed to have lost contact when the vessel was directly above the Titanic wreck.

Sarkar's comments come as five passengers onboard are due to run out of oxygen at around 12pm today UK time.

Her tweet said: "If the super-rich can spend £250,000 on vanity jaunts 2.4 miles beneath the ocean then they're not being taxed enough."

In a second tweet, she added: "We get well-funded public services, they get saved from the consequences of their own hubris. What's not to like?"

Other Twitter users have since slammed her comments with one critic branding her post "vile".

GB News commentator and former Brexit Party MEP Martin Daubney said: "What an utterly grotesque tweet. People are likely about to die and Ash Sarkar makes this about rich people paying more tax? Have a day off, love."

Lord Austin, a former Labour MP who now sits as an independent in the Lords, said: "Look how this virtuous caring communist reacts as five human beings - including a teenager - might be gasping their last breaths and suffering an awful fate.

"And the hard left wonder why people don’t vote for them."

YouTuber Mahyar Tousi added: "Evil and heartless tweet purely based on envy and hate."

The victims of the disaster are believed to be alive under the Atlantic Ocean and desperately trying to raise help.
