Patrick Christys shared his views on Keir Starmer

President Trump’s actions in Venezuela have exposed Sir Keir Starmer as a weak man who stands for nothing.

Keir Starmer is “Mr International Law”. He was Mr International Law when it came to handing over British sovereign territory in the Chagos Islands — and making the British taxpayer pay Mauritius billions of pounds to take them off us.

He was Mr International Law when it came to the Rwanda plan: we couldn’t do it, so we scrapped it.

He is Mr International Law when it comes to refusing to turn the boats back in the Channel, and when it comes to failing to deport foreign criminals including murderers, terrorists, rapists and paedophiles who find it easier to stay in Britain than to be removed.

He was Mr International Law when he agreed to pay compensation to an Islamist double murderer who took a prison officer hostage.

He won his case citing the European Convention on Human Rights and Starmer chose not to appeal. Instead, he dispatched his close friend, now the Attorney General, to say this:

“I’m proud to say that since taking office, this new United Kingdom Government has taken steps to uphold our obligations and the international rules-based system.

"The new United Kingdom Government will never withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights, or refuse to comply with judgments of the Court.”

Starmer is also Mr International Law when it comes to net zero. We are in the middle of a cold snap. People are freezing in their own homes because they cannot afford to put the heating on.

And yet last year Norway approved 33 new oil and gas licences in the North Sea. Britain approved zero. Instead, we have a Prime Minister who serenades wind farms.

Sir Keir Starmer cares so deeply about international law that he is willing to give away British territory and make you pay for it, leave our borders open to illegal migrants, potentially refuse to deport them even if they murder or rape someone, and allow people to shiver in their homes.

That, apparently, is the price of his devotion to international law.

So what does Mr International Law have to say when America enters a sovereign country and removes its leader and his wife from their bed in the dead of night?

It’s pathetic, isn’t it? It’s no view at all.

No position. No backbone. No leadership.

I’m keeping an open mind about what President Trump did in Venezuela. But this isn’t about me. This is about Mr International Law. Starmer either has principles or he doesn’t and clearly he doesn’t.

We are constantly told we must obey international law, even when nobody else does. There are five permanent members of the UN Security Council: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. China and Russia ignore international law entirely.

The United States answers to nobody. That leaves Britain and France and we follow far more European Convention on Human Rights rulings than the French do.

So really, we are the mugs. The Americans didn’t consult Sir Keir Starmer on Venezuela — just as they didn’t consult him before bombing Iran.

Starmer has said he wants to speak to President Trump before making up his mind. And yet President Trump has not even bothered to pick up the phone to Mr International Law in No10.

What is clear is this: Starmer picks and chooses which international laws he follows, and he only seems to follow the ones that harm Britain.

Venezuela has shown that Britain is now being led by a follower a man who waits to see what others think before he acts.

The world has entered an age of strong leaders. Britain is being led by a very, very weak one.
