The repeated failure to protect Britain from foreign criminals 'looking for a better life' is staggering, writes the former editor of The Sun

How is it that Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood receives a round of applause for saying the UK has lost control of its borders and yet Nigel Farage, who has been saying the same for years, was labelled a racist – by Mahmood’s own boss.

The hypocrisy of this socialist shower is breathtaking.

I wonder if Mahmood made this admission so that nobody focussed on yet another shocking decision by an immigration court. For some inexplicable reason the media have not spotlighted this case. I imagine Editors have become bored. They shouldn’t be. We need to know and they are the only people who can bring these stories to our attention.

This case concerns an Egyptian one-man crime wave. He got to this country on the back of a lorry in 2016 when just 14 and claimed asylum.

Ten years later, the habitual user of cocaine and cannabis, has amassed at least 19 convictions involving threatening behaviour, vandalism, assaulting an emergency worker, theft, drug possession, affray and burglary. Oh, and how could I forget: possessing an offensive weapon.

Just the sort you want in your country.

At first a judge dismissed his plea for asylum. Then two things happened. The lawyers, all being paid for by us, started the appeals procedure. That was interrupted. Can you guess why? Correct.

He was jailed for 27 months in prison for robbery. In the meantime, the immigration judge granted him anonymity due to his ‘’struggles’’ with mental health.

When released from prison he, or to put it more properly, his lawyers started the appeal procedure.

Unbelievably he has won on the basis that his father may or may not be a member of the outlawed the extremist Muslim Brotherhood back in Egypt.

If dad was a member of the Brotherhood, and the judge accepted the family may be spinning a yarn, the son might face torture or other ill-treatment if he returned.

So, we are lumbered with this drug-crazed criminal who will, if history is a guide, both rob us and attack us but be living at our expense in a rent-free flat on a rather nice hotel. The only respite we’ll receive is will when this thug is in jail.

Thanks to being granted anonymity we won’t even know if he is living next door to us. As things stand both Reform and the Tories say they will scrap ECHR.

That will be at least four years away. How many more of the globe’s detritus will have turned up at our ports and airports by then?

I am beyond frustrated. All very well Mahmood announcing that migrants will be required to have A-level English before becoming British citizens (laughable since a majority of Labour voters don’t even have GCSE English) when the courts don’t see any hurdle to allowing the most stupid and most violent migrants to stay here.

There’s not a day without a most shocking court case in which someone from a faraway land comes here claiming they want a new and better life and yet inflict the most horrific violence on us.

I accept that if your nation is going to progress economically, we will need brains from the rest of the world. What I refuse to accept is that we have to take in young Egyptians who want to rob and plunder us.

Why is it that our judges don’t accept this as the premise for allowing people in? The sooner we adopt the American idea of voting in judges so they know they have to bow at the knee to popular opinion the better.
