The small boat crisis coupled with a crumbling asylum system, is the perfect route through which hostile states can get their men into the heart of Britain, writes the migration expert

The asylum system has now spiralled out of all control and the Labour government seems to be doing all it can to throw more fuel on the fire.

Rather than detaining and deporting the unvetted young men, from culturally distant nations, who arrive in Britain on small boats, the government has been accommodating them in hotels and houses of multiple occupancy.

The killers of Rhiannon White and Wayne Broadhurst were asylum seekers who were placed in the heart of British communities by the Home Office and given free rein to roam as they pleased.

As too were countless convicted rapists and sexual criminals who have plighted towns and cities in seemingly every corner of the United Kingdom; from Falkirk to Southampton, and Bolton to Norfolk.

A report released today by Parliament’s oldest committee, the Public Accounts Committee, reveals a terrifying fact that should be treated as nothing short of a national emergency.

The Home Office, the government department tasked with keeping the British public safe, has no idea how many asylum seekers have simply disappeared after their claim was rejected.

According to the PAC, the disjointed nature of the asylum system means data is “not routinely collected or available” on the number of failed asylum seekers who have absconded.

An unknown number of individuals, likely in the tens of thousands if not more, have slipped through the cracks because Home Office officials have been outwitted by an excel spreadsheet.

Some of these individuals will have left the country on their own accord but, as the Home Office admitted to the Committee, many others will “remain in the UK without detection”.

These men, and the majority will be men, have evaded authorities, gone underground, and will spend the foreseeable future working in Britain’s burgeoning grey economy and organised crime sector.

Not all, of course, will go on to commit heinous crimes against the people of this country but eking out an existence without legal permission will undoubtedly require involvement in shady activities.

Drug dealing and people trafficking are potential career choices for illegal migrants.

The simple fact is that we do not know what these individuals intend.

We have already seen an asylum seeker be convicted of attempting to carry out a terror attack on British soil, and three Iranian asylum seekers were charged last year with spying on behalf of a foreign adversary.

It has also been revealed, by Baroness Casey, that asylum seekers are now involved in the grooming gang scandal, with five Afghans being charged last month for involvement in group-based child sexual exploitation.

If a hostile state wished to cause grave harm to the people of this country, and commit atrocities on British soil, then the small boat crisis coupled with a crumbling asylum system, is the perfect route through which to get its men into the heart of Britain.

Today’s revelation is damning evidence of this fact.

Officials know “where some of them are”, we are told, and would “seek to track them” down, but the simple fact is that Immigration Enforcement is understaffed, underfunded and underperforming.

Most will never leave.

This chaos sends a clear message to the thousands of migrants looking to cross the Channel; not only will they be treated like kings during the asylum process, but even if an application is eventually rejected, there is little likelihood they will be removed.
